A science fiction trilogy managed to turn a bankrupt automaker into an icon of the 1980s. Tens if not hundreds of people still drive it on a daily basis. Say Doc Brown built a replacement for his famous Time Machine every decade, have you ever wondered what he would choose? An online car dealership did, and they asked people in the UK for the answer.
To celebrate the long-awaited October 21, 2015, Zuto Finance surveyed people in the UK to find out what cars the public would choose for a trip to the future. The results are quite interesting.

35% of the public said the Lotus Esprit would be their dream 1980s time machine, even though the DeLorean was chosen instead. The Lotus has the looks, and perhaps the style, but it could still need some work in the performance department. Again, this was the replacement for the year 1985.

The next in line is the Dodge Viper, which was the ideal 1990s-time machine for 31% of the public. Then comes the Ford GT. If the early 2000s had been the moment human kind discovered the way to cut the space-time continuum with the use of a car, 34% of the people in the UK say this is it. Judging by the GT's 200mph top speed, we can’t but agree with them.

Fast forward some ten more years and we arrive to the present. 34% of the people who were questioned said the BMW i8 would fit best as Doc’s time machine if he built one today. No need to talk about its hybrid construction and ground-breaking technology, since the doors are more than enough to find the connection.

As for the future? Well, it would appear the self-driving Chevrolet FNR could make for an excellent candidate, although we feel there are plenty of other examples to do the job.

What do you guys think, what would be the best time machine other than a DeLorean DMC-12?
