Most of our readers know that a road car built by a little tuning company from Texas was able to hit a staggering 270.49 mph (435 km/h) at the Kennedy Space Center runway. However, John Hennessey and his company won't stop here according to a recent report, but will try to crack 290 mph (466 km/h) with an improved version of the Hennessey Venom GT.
Although the Hennessey Venom GT's record hasn't been certified by the Guinness World Book of Records since it did a single run instead of the mandatory two in either direction, the feat is on film and to hell with the Bugatti Veyron's 268 mph (431 km/h) official record from 2010. The Lotus Exige-derived Venom GT is one helluva machine if you consider that it was developed by a small team of engineers employed by an American tuning company.

John Hennessey has recently told the Brits over at Top Gear UK that "something in the 290 mph range will be possible" when asked about what's in store for customers of the upcoming Hennessey Venom F5. By the way, the yet-to-be-launched model has been named after the most powerful tornado on the Fujita scale, so we expect great stuff to come from Sealy, Texas.

While the Venom GT does "only with" 1,244 horsepower, the evolution model is expected to send more than 1,400 horsepower to its rear wheels, all while tipping the scale at a feathery 2,866 lbs (1,300 kgs). The price for all this madness? $1,2 million including taxes it seems.

Top Gear reports that the Hennessey Venom F5 will adopt a six-speed manual or a single clutch paddle-shift transmission. Expected to be launched in 2015, the first deliveries are slated for early 2016 and only 30 cars are to be produced. "With the F5, we definitely want to validate its top speed potential. We'll probably go to Bonneville. But running on the salt flats is a challenge, for sure," concluded John Hennessey.
