Hennessey VelociRaptor Drag Races Range Rover Sport SVR with a Stunning Result

Just in case you’ve gotten bored of all the hybrid hypercar racing and the supped-up street racers that live their life 2,400 hp at a time, you might want to see another type of drag racing. One that involves more practical machines.

In the Yellow corner, we have the Hennessey Velociraptor, a pickup truck for those who are prepared to harvest the land of hell. In the Blue corner sits the Range Rover Sport SVR, basically a flying carpet that can go round the track as quick as some sportscars.

The two were recently pitted against each other by Top Gear Magazine and the result was, predictably, a spectacular one.

These are the type of cars that really shouldn’t be judged based on their engines. Both are motivated by supercharged V8s, but the Hennessey’s take on the now-old Raptor has been dialed all the way up to 623 hp. This makes the 550 hp of the Special Vehicle Operations SUV look rather unimportant, but don’t rush to conclusions just yet.

Watch the footage below closely and you’ll notice the Velociraptor is the first to get off the line (this might have to do with the reaction time though). Nevertheless, the Range Rover Sport SVR’s launch control thrusts the machine forward as it were using a supercharged winch.

This is the point where we’ll stop the spoilers, as we don’t want to ruin the fun of the clip. Before you hit the “play” button below, remember this is a double race, with the second level targeting the aural side of this blown battle.
