No fewer than 1,817 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 1,193 pound-feet of torque. That’s how much Hennessey has to offer from the Fury, a twin-turbo V8 with a displacement of 6.6 liters. The 400-cu.in. blunderbuss further sweetens the deal with 23 psi of boost pressure, two turbochargers, and a high-flow titanium exhaust system.
We still can’t understand why the Texas-based tuner writes “POWERED BY PENNZOIL” on the valve covers, but then again, there’s no denying that Hennessey Performance Engineering received a lot of help from the American oil company. Without further beating around the bush, you need a lot of money to come up with such beastly output ratings.

HPE also showcases a bit of humor on Instagram with the confirmation of the Fury’s numbers, namely the #bugatti and #holdmybeer hashtags. That’s a shot at the Chiron Super Sport 300+, limited to 30 examples of the breed but also electronically limited to 273.4 miles per hour.

Bugatti is defeating the purpose of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ with this peculiar choice, more so when the pre-production prototype broke the speed record with a maximum velocity of 304.7 miles per hour. John Hennessey, by comparison, believes that the Venom F5 is capable of 310 mph based on CFD simulations. The curb weight and aerodynamics of the car theoretically translate to 300 miles per hour with only 1,520 horsepower.

John “would like to run 500 km/h” with the Venom F5, which is a bit more than 310 miles per hour. But in the first instance, the mid-engined land missile will try to break the 300-mph barrier on its way to 311 and change. High-speed validation could take place at the Nevada highway where Koenigsegg pushed the Agera RS to the limit, but only time will tell if Hennessey chooses this stretch of road over a specialized facility.

At least 450 kilograms (992 pounds) lighter than the Chiron, the Venom F5 takes its name from the F5 tornado. That’s the fastest rating according to the Fujita scale, working out to speeds ranging from 261 to 318 miles per hour (420 to 512 km/h).
