Leave it to Hennessey Performance to nearly double the muscle number of the record-setting Dodge Demon. The Texan aftermarket specialist announced a 1,500 hp program from the uber-Challenger in April last year and the tuner has now taken delivery of its development car.
The Yellow Jacket-dressed Mopar machine has now landed in Hennessey's hands and, as you can imagine, the company has to put the factory car to the test before it starts upgrading it.
And, as you'll be able to see in the Instagram post at the bottom of the page, it all started with a trip to the gas station.
The announced plan for the blown 6.2-liter V8 includes beefing up the engine, upgrading the supercharger and working on the headers, among others.
Oh, and let's not forget that Hennessey aims to deal with the NHRA ban of the Demon - since the thing can run the 1/4-mile in under 9.99 seconds, it needs a roll cage to be eligible for NHRA-sanctioned events and this isn't included on the list of factor goodies.
Well, Hennessey aims to offer a cage for the Demon, while also upping the ante on the deceleration front. As such, the monstrous Challenger will also be gifted with a parachute, so owners don't have to worry about what happens after the finish line.
While tuners are busy taking the Demon to the gym, owners of the stock muscle car have a challenge (no pun intended) of their own to complete.
You see, despite Dodge introducing the 840-pony Challenger as a 9.65s car, the first 9s quarter-mile run only landed over the weekend. Nevertheless, with drivers now being about a blink away from achieving the official 1,320 feet number of the car and the said run having been performed without using the transbrake feature, it shouldn't take long until the milestone is achieved.
