Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1 Convertible Screams On The Dyno

Tuning is in the nature of Hennessey Performance Engineering, and even though the Camaro ZL1 is already a beast, the Texas-based company can squeeze 1,000 horsepower from the blown V8. Previously available only as a fixed-head coupe, the manic Exorcist is now available with a soft top.

Based on the Camaro ZL1 Convertible, the second coming of the Exorcist hits the chassis dyno in its first video teaser. “Track testing videos coming soon,” says Hennessey in the clip’s description, with pricing information not available for the time being. Bearing in mind the ZL1 Convertible starts from a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat-bashing $69k, the open-top Exorcist is far from cheap.

Available as a complete turnkey vehicle, the Exorcist Convertible’s 1,000 horsepower are delivered at 6,400 rpm. Torque is also up to 800 pound-feet of thereabout, and best of all, Hennessey warrants its ominous creation for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. Increasing output from 650 to 1k ponies is no small feat, and it’s obvious if we go through the upgrades.

The list starts with a high-flow supercharger for the 6.2-liter V8, custom camshafts, and ported cylinder heads. Then there’s the modified intercooler, upgraded valve springs, retainers, intake and exhaust valves, lifters and pushrods, as well as the long-tube stainless steel headers. Different midpipes, high-flow catalytic converters, all the necessary gaskets and fluids, plus HPE’s engine management calibration, and the Exorcist Convertible is finally ready.

The finishing touches come in the form of dyno tuning and road testing, plus the obligatory badging, premium floor mats, and serial-numbered dashboard and engine plaques. For customers that aren’t happy with the standard specification, Hennessey offers a handful of performance-oriented extras.

20-inch drag radials at the rear? Check! H10 monoblock wheels? Those too. The 10-speed automatic transmission instead of the more exciting stick shift? Of course! Last, but not least, Hennessey offers a track tool pack that help owners fine-tune the Exorcist Convertible at the circuit or on the strip.
