Hennessey Builds Limited Venom GT “World’s Fastest Edition”

About a month ago, Hennessey Performance Engineering has hit 270.49 miles per hour (435.31 km/h) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida in its newly-updated Lotus Exige-based Venom GT supercar.
Motivated by no less than 1,244 horsepower, that specific Venom GT reached the highest speed ever recorded by a production car, surpassing the almighty Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which holds the official record at 268 mph (431.07 km/h) since 2010.

Although the run wasn’t eligible for the Guinness Book of World Records, as the Texas crew wasn’t allowed to compete a mandatory second run, it didn’t stop Hennessey from celebrating the achievement by building a special Venom GT “World’s Fastest Edition”.

Powered by the same 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that helped the “regular” Venom clock 270 mph, the WFE edition has 1,244 horsepower and needs only 13.63 second to accelerate from 0 to 300 km/h (186.41 mph) - an official Guinness World Record.

Only three units of this special edition Venom GT will be constructed. All of them will be painted white and will feature a red-white-blue stripe running across the car from the front hood to the rear wing.

Interestingly enough, Hennessey says that all three examples of the WFE have already been sold to previous company customers for $1.25 million (€910,000 / £760,000) each.

"The Venom GT is America's supercar and it broke 270 mph on the same runway where the Space Shuttle landed at the Kennedy Space Center," said company founder John Hennessey.

"We wanted to offer a special paint scheme that would incorporate the colors of the American flag-the same flag we flew on the Space Shuttle runway. Thus, our special livery package includes a body in white with red and blue stripes."
