Helm Jaguar E-Type Is the Modern Aftermarket Way of Reimagining a Classic Legend

Because of the high prestige and collector status of iconic models, it’s really no surprise automakers have dipped their toes into the automotive customization market. After all, small shops proved restomods are in fashion, so why not take advantage on a grand level? Even though Jaguar’s legendary E-Type recently got a factory rehash, here’s another aftermarket attempt at elevating its perfection status into the 21st century.

Hot on the heels of Jaguar Land Rover's recent 60 Collection (and other interesting continuation works), here comes Britain’s Helm Motorcars to “push the boundaries of automotive customization” and express its love for the Series 1 Jaguar E-Type.

Naturally, their reimagined E-Types aren’t regular classic cars because they also need to set themselves apart from the factory-backed continuation series besides making a name for themselves on the collector market.

As such, the company promises uncompromising styling, advanced technology, and unique interiors penned by none other than leather guru Bill Amberg. Naturally, exclusivity is of utmost importance, so a mere 20 examples will be created. Each one will be tailored to the express wishes of the future owner.

Helm is the brainchild of Chedeen Battick, a renowned Jaguar E-Type restoration specialist, so it’s no wonder more than 3,800 hours are needed for each Helm E-Type example to come to life. It does so in a mix of steel-reinforced monocoque shell, handcrafted aluminum doors, and polished big-bore aircraft-grade stainless steel.

Under the equally handcrafted aluminum hood resides a 300-horsepower 3.8-liter normally aspirated engine that moves around just 1,200 kg (2,645 pounds) in a very modern way thanks to a series of creature comforts. Among those worth mentioning are the adjustable power steering, bespoke five-speed manual transmission, adjustable suspension, or soft close door system.

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but we can all imagine that Helm’s take on the E-Type won’t come cheap. That assumption is based on some of the luxury amenities, such as the heated windscreen, “buttery soft suede and plump semi-aniline leather,” billet copper keys, or the unique Bill Amberg Rocket luggage set, among other goodies.
