Heidfeld Regrets Not Switching to Brawn

The German F1 driver could have been competing this season behind the wheel of a BGP 001 for Brawn GP team. Nick Heidfeld revealed for a German newspaper, Suddeutscher Zeitung, that he was in talks with Honda last year for a driver's seat.

After not being able to reach an agreement with Honda, the 32-year-old F1 driver signed a one-year extension with BMW-Sauber. He admitted for the aforementioned newspaper that he sometimes thinks how it would have been had he signed with Brawn GP's predecessor, Honda Racing.

“Of course I think from time to time what would have happened. In 2008 I was in contact with them” said Heidfeld. Nick's regret couldn't be bitter as he sits 12th in the 2009 championship standings, while Button and Barrichello are first and second.

Following the news that Honda will withdraw from the sport, Heidfeld stated he was glad with the decision he made, but then “suddenly they (Brawn) win race after race”.

Nick Heidfeld also wanted to point out he is very disappointed with the way this year's politics have undermined the fascination of the sport. With rules, threats and arguments keeping front page headlines this season, Formula One has shaded in the face of scandal.

These days, if I read an interview with someone from F1, I no longer say 'that's interesting'. Instead I ask 'I wonder why is he saying that?' I find that pretty sad", added Heidfeld.

The German driver is clearly looking to secure a drive for the 2010 season as his wish to achieve victories in the Great Circle remains strong.
