What is tuning, what is right, what is wrong, and the list goes on. These are just the main questions one has to ask himself when they see something as carefully modified as this older Audi R8 V10, brought to life by the mcchip-dkr GmbH outfit from Germany.
Let's face it – the old-gen Audi R8 in V10 form was a Lamborghini Gallardo with some comfort built into it, nothing less and nothing more. Starting with the LMX-branded R8 V10 and finishing with the second-generation Audi R8 V10 plus, Ingolstadt's sportiest machine is now a thoroughly desirable must-have. But what if you have an old V10 model that now lacks the sparkle it boasted with when you two first met?
Cue mcchip-dkr and the monster you can admire in the adjacent video and mega photo gallery. Baptised Projekt Potter & Rich Recon MC8 V10 FSI Supercharged, the name may be a mouthful, but the attention to detail and performance are out of this world. Seriously now, this editor has rarely seen a tuning job as focused on detail and motorsport-inspired characteristics as this particular R8 with the 5.2 V10 motor.
Speaking of the engine, everything from the cams to the rods and pistons has been modified to the measure of a supercharging system bolted on top of the 5.2-liter ten-cylinder sledgehammer. Quoted HP at the crank is ">850 PS (metric horsepower)" and yes, the body is all carbon fiber. Almost nothing of the original shell was kept, hence the overall look of the mcchip-dkr body kit harks back to the Audi R8 LMS pirvateer racecar, a contraption raced in GT3 and GT Daytona classes from 2009 to the present day.
Alcantara is the name of the game on the inside. Curiously enough, the infotainment system and other creature comforts haven't been deleted. The technical side of the deal is complemented by racing brakes from Brembo, similarly racy suspension from KW, Capristo exhaust, and many more. Still, the mega gallery below speaks more than a thousand words, as does the flat-out exhaust noise you can hear below.
