Hear the Ford GT's 600 HP Twin-Turbo V6 Engine Roar into Life

Us McLaren-loving folks applaud Ford for being brave and sticking a twin-turbo V6 engine into the new GT supercar. However, the internet communities are already joking that a V6 was used because they know everybody will do an engine swap eventually.

Are you depressed because Ford's supercar is a V6? Don't be, because we have one of the first videos that show how the engine sounds. And as you're about to see, all is still right with the world.

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine really does deserve to be called an "EcoBeast". Ford says it's production-ready and will pump out a very respectable 600 horsepower, on par with a Ferrari 458 Speciale. The twin forced induction system also brings about a third dimension, as turbo whistle can clearly be heard in the video.

The all-new Ford GT will pair its EcoBoost engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle. Even though this is still a blue-collar supercar, the tech side has moved firmly into the 21st century.

On the styling front, we can hardly believe this was designed by the same company that makes the Fiesta. It's about as aerodynamically advanced as the LaFerrari, a mixture of carefully sculpted wings and powerful arches.

“The GT is the ultimate execution of an enthusiast supercar,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “GT includes innovations and technologies that can be applied broadly across Ford’s future product portfolio – another proof point that Ford continues raising the performance bar while ultimately improving vehicles for all of our customers.”

This is but a taste of what autoevolution can tell you about the new Ford GT. For the full story, check out our live coverage, which includes over 50 photos and other video footage shot in Detroit.
