We simply can’t wait to see the new BMW M2 in the flesh. If it turns out to be exactly how we expect it, the world will have another performance car to enjoy, at the price of a fully decked 3 Series. Or even cheaper.
The future M car was spotted doing laps on the Nurburgring and, as we expected, it was being pushed really hard. The scraping noises the front bumper makes at times are more than clear in this regard.

As you can see, the prototype we’re watching seems to be in full production guise, even though it is camouflaged. The front bumper has two massive air intakes at the sides that we’re hoping are feeding fresh air into the massive intercoolers before going into the engine. That’s because it would be a shame not to be used and have a fake grille installed in front of them, as we’ve seen on other Bimmers of late (the X4 with the M Sport package surely springs to mind).

The performance on this car should be out of this world and it really is a mystery how BMW will position it in relation to the M3 and M4 models. That’s because the M2 will be using a similar 3-liter inline 6-cylinder turbocharged engine making around 370 HP but it will also be lighter because of its more compact construction and size.

If it’s also going to use CFRP and aluminum all over, the weight might actually drop under the 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs) tipping point by quite a lot. With 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) at the rear wheels and a manual gearbox things should get sideways really quick.
