What could be said about the Chevrolet SSR except for the fact that General Motors managed to cram more crossover ideas than anyone else into a single pack?! It is a pickup truck with vintage styling for those looking back a few decades while anchored in the period’s modern technology. It is a retractable hardtop convertible packing a Vortec small-block, which is why Chevy dubbed it simply the SSR – aka Super Sport Roadster. And it is all of the above combined in a package so odd it did not identify its proper client target base, so it bit the dust with less than 25k units produced.
But the Chevrolet SSR does have its steady fan base, people who appreciate it for its performance – especially of the late model year LS2 V8 variety – and for its unique styling evoking the feel-good years that came immediately after the Second World War.

The SSR is also a great way to stand out in a crowd – especially if you are not Ewan McGregor or Scarlett Johansson (the stars teamed up in 2005 with a flamed-black SSR that belonged to Steve Buscemi’s character).

Also from the same year is this pristine Chevrolet SSR example that is just about ready to cross the auction block during Mecum’s Kissimmee Summer Special event taking place in Florida on August 26th, 27th and 29th.

We have seen a lot of vintage cars and even some trucks on the roster and it was about time we talked about a younger model – which is also why this unit specifically caught our attention.

This is a very rare unit because Chevrolet back in 2005 was just starting to pair up the fabulous LS2 V8 found under the hood of the C6 Corvette, Trailblazer SS, and Pontiac GTO, with a six-speed Tremec manual transmission option. The example on sale features the stick shifter and the 6.0-liter (364.1 cubic inches) version of the GM small-block series for a total of 390 hp and good all-round performance (period-advertised time of 5.29 seconds to 60 mph).

There are very few details shared in the listing, unfortunately. We do know the red eye-grabbing exterior is contrasted by a black interior and we also noticed the example was configured with lots of attention to details – such as opting for a fully-carpeted bed with wood rails. There is also one very important piece of information that was actually shared – the SSR was driven just 1703 miles!
