Hartge Releases Homologated F20 M135i Engine Conversion

The BMW tuner Hartge released its official engine conversion kit for the new F20 1 Series M135i this week. This conversion kit has been released rather fast considering that the M135i was just recently added to BMW's line-up.

The M135i's role is to keep you entertained as well as the 1M Coupe did before the production ended. Those are some hard to fill shoes if you ask us. The M135i has a N55 3-liter 6-cylinder engine delivering 320 HP and 450 Nm of torque, compared to the 1M coupe that had a N54 3-liter 6-cylinder engine but with 2 turbochargers (the N55 has only 1) that boasted 340 HP and 500 Nm of torque.

However, the slight difference in power can be compensated by a slight decrease in weight. This ins't the case though, both cars weighing somewhere around 1,500 kg. There is just one advantage to the F20 M135i. The weight distribution that has been improved over the old E82 and now 52% of the total sits on the front wheels.

The Hartge conversion solves the power problem. They've taken the N55 engine up to 367 HP and 520 Nm of torque, better numbers than the old E82 1M Coupe. That means that this car has a chance at becoming another BMW hit.
