Harman Infotainment for Fiat-Chrysler

Automotive audio and infotainment systems manufacturer Harman is strengthening it's hold on the industry after it announced yesterday will become the official supplier of such systems for both Fiat and Chrysler. The announcement comes only a month after a similar deal was signed with German manufacturer BMW.

For Fiat and Chrysler, Harman will be supplying the next-generation infotainment platform, complete with advanced connectivity, integrated on-board navigation and audio tuning capabilities. There are not much details available for the system though, nor is there info on when the new system will make its debut.

“We are delighted to extend our long-standing relationship with Chrysler Group to Fiat,” Dinesh C. Paliwal, Harman CEO said in a release.

“We are honored by both automakers’ confidence in Harman and the opportunity to serve two leading global automotive brands. We look forward to working with Chrysler Group and Fiat to deliver solutions blending high performance with scalable, next-generation features for their customers around the world.”

For the deal with BMW, the supplier will be working with Magneti Marelli: Harman will be in charge of supplying BMW in Asia, while Magneti Marelli will be the European supplier.

In BMW's case, and probably in the case of both Fiat and Chrysler, the new system will include features such as iSpeech, wireless connectivity, mobile office, navigation, and advanced telematics (with more features, of course, for the premium brand).

It will be built on the NVIDIA system-on-a-chip (SOC) technology, for scalable microprocessor power and graphic performance. More details to be announced in the months to come.
