A couple of weeks ago, rumors began to circulate that lifelong friends and riders Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman were preparing and may have even started a third extended trip that would double as a documentary and, most important of all, that it would see them go electric.
Specifically, reports noted that the two would be riding Harley-Davidson LiveWires, with Rivian pickup trucks as backup, which would carry DC fast chargers. The production team would ride in a
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford F35, since they had no need to go electric because they wouldn’t be on camera, it was said.
McGregor and Boorman would ride from the southernmost tip of Argentina, Tierra del Fuego to Los Angeles or Alaska, and their adventure would be documented in a documentary called The Long Way Up, the same reports claimed.
The Drive has been able to half-confirm all of the above, with an extra detail: the trip will take the duo to Alaska.
For the time being, producers, Harley-Davidson and Rivian remain mum on the topic of the possible collaboration. But you know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and apparently, there are many thousands of words available on social media, thanks to eagle-eyed fans – and some cyber-stalking on part of The Drive.
Indeed, McGregor and Boorman will be riding LiveWires, which seem to have been modified to be more comfortable and better adjusted to such a long trip. They will also be using Rivian trucks as backup, and they’ve officially hit the road a couple of weeks ago, give or take a few days. The Drive notes that one of the producers on The Long Way Up has been posting a bunch of photos on Instagram under the hashtag #russmalkin, some of which you will also find at the bottom of the page.
The same media outlet notes that the final destination isn’t Los Angeles as previously rumored, but Alaska, as Boorman hinted a while back. The duo will conclude the motorcycle journey in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the northernmost tip of North America.
