Harley-Davidson Unveils First Look at the New eBicycles

It’s been a year since Harley-Davidson’s first foray into the electric market with LiveWire and the time is nigh for the first electric bicycle from the iconic motorcycle manufacturer.

The eBicycle is “coming soon,” the maker said during its Annual Dealer Meeting in Milwaukee, where it also unveiled the first look at the electric bike. It’s still in prototype stage and the finished models may vary, Harley-Davidson says in a post on the official Harley webpage, but at least it’s enough to offer an appreciation of what we’re to expect.

And what we should expect is a bike that’s sleek and efficient, fast and reliable. The eBicycle will be light and fast, and perfectly adapted to the urban landscape. During the same meeting, the maker announced plans for an off-road edition but that’s as far as it went with details on this model.

“Harley-Davidson’s first electric pedal-assist bicycles are light, fast, and easy for anyone to ride,” a post on the official webpage reads. “Designed to shine in urban environments, this all-new line of eBicycles is just one more example of how Harley-Davidson’s More Roads initiative is actively working to inspire a new generation of two-wheeled riders around the world.”

No estimated release date or price tag have been announced. Regarding the latter, reports in the media say buyers should expect something in the $500 to $10,000 range, which… well, really isn’t saying much.

Harley-Davidson says the electric two-wheelers planned are meant “to establish the company as the leader in electrification of mobility over the next several years and inspire new riders with new ways to ride.”

In March this year, Harley-Davidson acquired StaCyc, a 3-year-old startup that makes electric-powered two-wheelers for children. At the time, only 2 models were part of the StaCyc eDrive offer and both were listed as sold-out.

Harley-Davidson is all about the electric revolution, and based on the reactions worldwide to these two announcements, cyclists can’t wait for it.
