Behold the power of branding, as Harley introduces its new (and this time, serious) helmet, the FXRG. Unlike other lids bearing the bar and shield badge, this one was actually derived from an existing, fairly successful unit, the Evoline Series 3, and this adds more credibility and credit to it. However, a quick look at the facts tells us that the FXRG is a standard version of the Shark, with fewer features and a higher price. H-D decals do come with a price, obviously.
Just like the Shark EvoLine Series 3, the FXRG arrives with dual homologation, as a full-face and open-face lid, and is compliant to both the DOT and the ECE 22-05 safety standard requirements. A closer inspection reveals that the two helmets are pretty similar, and I’d go with the (re)branding story, as it is a scenario easier to believe than having Shark building yet another EvoLine Series 3 lid, especially for Harley.

The shell is made from injected thermoplastic resin, with an outer anti-scratch surface and removable, washable interior padding. The lid also comes with an integrated UV380 label and anti-scratch sun visor with a quick-release system, while the noise insulation and aerodynamics in the open position are also said to have been improved. Harley’s FXG should also benefit from the improved ventilation and quieter design. An “Auto-Up” system makes unlocking the chin bar and the visor simultaneously an easy operation.

It is rather intriguing that Harley does not mention anything about the Sharktooth Bluetooth communication system, or whatever would Milwaukee like to call it. The EvoLine Series 3 had a special compartment in which the company’s proprietary Bluetooth intercom could be installed, but in the case of the Harley FXRG lid, all we have is total silence (pun intended).

While the Shark EvoLine Series 3 can be bought for around $315 (€250), the Harley FXRG arrives with a $495 (€390) price tag. However, this looks like a far better deal than the other (funny) H-D lids. Available in sizes XS through XL.
