After having instructed more than 350,000 new riders since its debut back in 2000, the Harley-Davidson Riding Academy is finally taking a bold step and goes international. In addition to the existing national network, the Riding Academy will no expand to Mexico, China and South Africa, most likely a part of a bigger move towards even more markets.
The program will involve the new Street 500 motorcycles, as Harley-Davidson thinks they are probably the best entry-point machines for new riders to get acquainted to motorcycling and being reasonably balanced between power and non-intimidating maneuverability. All the classes Harley-Davidson dealers are giving are approved by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), and the instructors are also MSF-certified.

Harley-Davidson’s Riding Academy New Rider Course is a combination of class and range training spanning across a minimum of 20 hours, with a maximum 6:1 student/instructor ratio guaranteed. Angela Thundercloud, Harley-Davidson rider training manager says: "For years we've been delivering a life-changing, freedom-inspiring training experience. Now, we're taking rider training to a new level by incorporating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that students will want to keep riding long after class is over.

Instilling confidence is vital to preparing new riders to move from the classroom to the open road. We designed everything – the experience, the curriculum and the equipment – to inspire that needed confidence and empower new students to have a ton of fun learning to ride on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle."

In some states, graduating the H-D Riding Academy exempts new riders from certain roast tests prior to becoming licensed, and usually brings certain discounts towards buying a motorcycle. Over 180 Harley dealers across the US are offering such safety courses.
