Things could have gone 100% bad for a motorcycle police officer in Montgomery, Alabama, as his superiors found an You Tube video of the guy street drag racing another fellow on a Honda CBR600RR.
The rather harmless and obviously fun-focused race was recorded by the Honda riders' helmet cam and made it on You Tube. As the Montgomery PD learned about it, the officer, identified as Carlos Rogers resigned from his position before he could be disciplined.
National media ran the story with the spontaneous race and it went viral in a very short time. Rogers declared that him leaving the force was the right thing to do and had no hard feelings against the Montgomery PD. Hindsight would teach him differently in the matter of street racing, he also added.
Lawrence Lee Spillers, the Honda rider also declared that it was never his intention to cause Rogers any trouble and learning that the cop was relieved from his duties in the force was a rather rough decision, given the small social danger of their showdown.
Chief Kevin Murphy of the Montgomery PD had some talks with the city prosecutor and the latter said the evidence was not enough for traffic citations, in a rather mannered way looking forward to calm things down, WSFA reports.
Murphy then asked Rogers back to work, the same source mentioning tha the Chief also added that the officer was "worth saving" and deserved a second chance.
So far disciplinary action will be taken against Rogers and he's back in an administrative role, with a several weeks ban from the road.
