Harley-Davidson Helps Haitians in Need

The first motorcycle manufacturer to lend a helping hand to Haitians in need is Harley-Davidson. The manufacturer announced it will donate 28 new Buell and Harley-Davidson motorcycles to assist with earthquake disaster relief and stabilization efforts, and will remain in Haiti as a permanent donation to the government.

"Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this devastating disaster in Haiti," said Rod Copes, Senior Vice President of International Sales, Marketing and Business Development for Harley-Davidson. "As the relief and stabilization efforts continue, motorcycles can often offer a higher degree of maneuverability and access than other types of vehicles."

The motorcycles are being shipped from Motor Company facilities to the Dominican Republic, where Harley-Davidson dealership organization MagnaMotors will facilitate direct delivery to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.

The Buell motorcycles are most likely a part of the liquidation sale that kicked-off on January 28. The sale will run everyday for 30 days until everything is sold, at enormous discounts, regardless of costs or loss.

American wellness expert Jillian Michaels, who was recently contracted by Harley-Davidson to encourage women to gear up and get behind the handlebars, auctioned off her Yamaha FZ1 motorcycle also to help the Haitians after the disastrous earthquake.

The 2007 Yamaha FZ1 “Black Stiletto” custom streetfighter motorcycle is custom painted by Troy Lee and features titanium pipes, belly pan fairings, modified mirrors, iPod and iPhone capabilities, and a special alarm. The motorcycle, sold for $17,400 with the proceeds going to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.
