Harley Factory team has used the XR750 model for years now on the flat track, and it’s time to change that. Their new machine is called the Harley-Davidson XG750R and will debut during the Daytona Bike Week at the March 16 AFT Daytona TT.
The new XG750R was specially built for flat track racing, coming with a dedicated chassis and a race-modified, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 750 cc Revolution X V-twin engine that was initially meant for the Street 750. Both chassis and engine modifications have been made with the help of Vance & Hines Motorsports.

“There is extraordinary energy building behind the new American Flat Track series, and after decades of XR750 dominance, it’s time to bring a new level of performance and technology to the track with the Harley-Davidson XG750R,” said Harley-Davidson Vice President and Managing Director U.S., Mike Kennedy. “The new Daytona TT promises to be a thrilling event. If you are in Daytona for Bike Week, ride to the race and help the Factory Team kick off an exciting season.”

The XG750R was put through a development season back in 2016 alongside the old air-cooled Factory Team XR750 bikes. The latter has carried racers to numerous victories and 37 AMA Grand National Championships in 44 seasons of competitions.

Although the XG750R is not a production model, the 750 cc XG Revolution X V-twin can be had through Harley-Davidson dealers and can be modified for racing purposes by aspiring private racers.

“The XG750R is a purebred racing motorcycle, but its modified engine is based on the same Revolution X V-Twin anyone can buy from a Harley-Davidson dealer in a Street 750 motorcycle, an engine designed by Harley-Davidson engineers and assembled at Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations in Kansas City,” Kennedy explains. “There’s a direct link from the Street 750 to the XG750R flat tracker the Factory Team will be racing for a championship, and that link is our passion for performance.”

Harley-Davidson has also revealed its 2017 flat track team with AMA Pro Grand National champions Kenny Coolbeth Jr and Jake Johnson being joined by young flat track star Brandon Robinson.
