Yes, it’s been 30 years since the Fat Boy was introduced to the lineup of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and the bike maker found no better way to celebrate the occasion than to launch a special edition based on the brand new generation introduced in 2018.
Called simply the Fat Boy 30th Anniversary, the special model does not bring any performance upgrades worth mentioning, but it does bring a series of unique design cues that are sure to make it stand out from the pack.
Wrapped in a color called Vivid Black, the bike blends it with bronze highlights for maximum effect. Black is used on almost every element of the bike from the cast-aluminum Lakester wheels to the exhaust, and in between on the headlamp nacelle, handlebar and controls.
Even the engine, the Milwaukee-Eight 114 (the most powerful in the Softail lineup) mixes the black on the engine covers with bronze on the lower rocker covers.
“The Fat Boy took the look, proportions and silhouette of a 1949 Hydra-Glide motorcycle and completely modernized it for a new generation of riders,” said in a statement Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Styling and Design.
“For this 30th Anniversary model we wanted to create something very special, so we leaned into the popularity of darker finishes and a limited run/serialized strategy to make the bike truly unique and exclusive.”
Harley does not plan to build too many anniversary models, and says only 2,500 units are planned to be made as part of the series. Each will come with a serialized number plate fitted to the fuel tank console. The price for every single one of the 2,500 bikes has been set at $21,949, not including destination charges.
