One of the biggest names in film music is Hans Zimmer. The German composer is the man responsible for the tunes that accompanied hits like Rain Man, The Dark Knight, Interstellar and many many more. And now his music will be heard on the road.
Sooner or later, all-electric vehicles traveling the world’s roads will have to generate some type of artificial sound to let people know they're in the area. This requirement allows carmakers to get creative and it’s likely we’ll hear a lot of interesting tunes in the years ahead, both inside and outside of the car.

BMW will start its collaboration with Zimmer slow, making him work to create the drive sounds and sound signs for the Vision M Next concept that will be shown for the first time on Tuesday, June 25.

Zimmer’s contribution is just the starting point of what BMW calls IconicSounds Electric, “a visionary sound offer” to be “created for future electrified vehicles from BMW.” It’s not clear how many of these many sounds will be composed by Zimmer himself.

“I have always been a BMW enthusiast,” Zimmer said in a statement for BMW.

“As a kid I used to recognize my mother coming home by the sound of her BMW. I am thrilled to get the chance to design the sound of future electric BMW’s and create emotion for the future electric driving experience.”

With less than a day left until the official unveiling, the M NEXT concept is still a mystery. Judging by the few photos released a week ago, we could venture into guessing the concept is a revival of the only true sports car ever made by the Bavarians decades ago, the M1.

And even if it’s likely the concept will not preview an actual production model, but more of a general design direction, we can hardly wait to see how BMW sees its electric future.
