While Elon Musk just made all Tesla Model S fans even happier with the new software coming this month, some people out there still like to keep things simple. Sure, we’re not talking about any series model, in fact it’s just one of a kind vehicle, but the point is the wooden car is actually functional and costs the same money you’d spend on a nice watch.
The first time we met Liu Fulong, a great carpenter from Shenyang city, Liaoning province, the gifted craftsman was busy building a wooden electric vehicle specially armed with some radars and missiles. They were obviously just for showing off, with no military connection what so ever, still looking quite impressive though. The homemade truck took a bit more to construct and was about three times more expensive, but still quite cool.
Now, the Chinese master-of-wood is back with yet another creation, one that he claims is capable to drive for 20km (12mi) when the battery is fully charged. According to Chinese reports, Liu said the car is actually an upgrade of a similar model he built back in August. Apart form parts like tires, car seats, lights, small brakes and engines, the rest of it is made out of wood. That includes its body, rear-view mirror frames and even the vehicle’s steering wheel.
Sure, you won’t be able to race the car on any Formula E track too soon, since its top speed is 50km/h (31mph), but the green ride will definitely pass as a daily driver in one of China’s extremely crowded streets.
