Ever wished you could strip off your suites, throw away all those work-related documents and just hit the road? Drive like crazy, with no speed limits, nowhere to get, nobody to tell you what to do. Drive and drive to eventually reach that beautiful remote lake, where you can only hear the mild spring breeze and the whispers of the birds flying around.
Imagine you are leaving on this journey like some sort of a jump out of your daily life and into this perfect world. Here, a gorgeous, hand-crafted cedar Adirondack guideboat would be docked next to the lake, waiting for you. That’s what this piece is about.

Imagine a classic boat revived to its previous glory today. Its high-end materials, the hundred hours that resort in the making of this beauty, every detail of it simply make you travel through time.

You might be wondering what’s gotten into us, speaking of a boat. Well, now and then we favor taking a slight detour from our countless auto journeys and look for exclusive stuff. Things money can buy, but most of the people don’t get the chance to hear about. The wooden vessel you see in the pictures is, in fact, a modern unit of the ones built in the early 19th century.

Looks British, but it is not really

These vessels evolved from a hunting skiff to today’s highly refined design, virtually unchanged since their birth. Apparently, they were originally designed to benefit the professional sporting guide who carried the boat and provided all the propulsion for his paying passengers. These people would be hunters or fisherman who traveled to the Adirondack region of upstate New York from New York City.

The point is there’s a company that sells Cedar boat kits and a guidebook that will show you how to make it yourself. That’s another part of the story we like, the fact you build it yourself. The company claims they blend contemporary materials and techniques with the traditional form of the guideboat. The exterior is covered with a protective layer of nearly invisible fiberglass.

The Cedar Adirondack guideboats are individually handcrafted in lengths from 13 to 19 feet (3.9 to 5.8 meters) and will not come cheap. Prices range from $14,960 to $18,040, so we’re obviously looking at a product designed for the few. For some reason, however, we find these pictures eye candy, so we figured it was worth sharing.
