Hamilton Writes Off Schumacher as 2011 Title Rival

While Fernando Alonso sees Michael Schumacher as his main threat in the battle for the world title in 2011, Lewis Hamilton is not very worried when it comes to the 7-time world champion. If ecstatic about the prospect of getting to race against Schumacher last year, Hamilton will tackle the 2011 campaign with other rivals in mind rather than the 42-year old German.

Talking to the German media during the launch of his team's McLaren MP4-26 single-seater in Berlin, Hamilton admitted that he doesn't think Schumacher will perform much better than last year (his worst campaign in career, by the way).

He's a seven-time world champion, so you have to assume he will be at his best this year if he wants to be, and if his car and his team have done a good job,” said Ham. “Personally, I don't think it's going to be much different to the previous season, but he can easily prove us wrong.

As compared to Hamilton, his teammate Jenson Button refused to write Schumacher off the F1 title fight next season, especially since the German benefits from one of F1's most appreciated masterminds, Ross Brawn. After all, under the guidance of the former Brawn GP owner, Button did secure his first F1 title back in 2009.

I think when Michael gets the car around him that he feels he has been a part of, he will be competitive,” said Button, who at one point during the 2010 F1 season made a laughing comment on Schu's return form in the series.

With Ross (Brawn – team principal) at the helm, they'll produce a competitive car and give Nico and Michael a chance to have good results. They're definitely a team that will be fighting for victories this year.
