Hamilton Wins Singapore GP

Following his incredible mistake in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza two weeks ago, McLaren's Lewis Hamilton made everything right in Singapore and won his first night race in career. The reigning world champion dominated the race from beginning to end - as he started from pole position - and powered to first place at the chequered flag ahead of Toyota's Timo Glock and Renault's Fernando Alonso.

In a race that featured only one safety car and a bunch of penalties handed by the race stewards, Ham hardly did any mistakes to take his second win of the season. Although starting with plenty of fuel, he scored several fastest laps until his first pit stop - around Lap 20 - mainly thanks to his MP4-24's efficient Kinetic Energy Recovery System.

Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg were both in contention for at least a podium place on Sunday, but speeding in the pit lane (Vettel) and crossing the white line at the exit of the pit lane (Rosberg) enforced drive-through penalties for both of them.

That benefited Toyota's Glock in the end, as the German driver initially seemed to be having the worst of days in Singapore. Although he shed a piece of his TF109 on track - which later enforced the yellow flag - in the first part of the race, he made the most of the safety car period halfway through the race to get within the Top 5 overall.

The safety car was caused by an accident with 41 laps to go, triggered by Jaime Alguarsuari's attack over Force India's Adrian Sutil. While trying to pull that maneuver on Sutil, the Spaniard touched the Force India's rear side and caused it to spin, while also projecting it into Nick Heidfeld's BMW F1.09.

With Rosberg and Vettel both serving their penalties, Glock got all the way onto 2nd place, which he never let go until the finish line. Unlike last year, Alonso's podium finish had nothing to do with doubtful strategies from Renault, as Sebastien Grosjean had crashed out of the race - without causing a SC period - after only 8 laps.

Fourth overall was Sebastian Vettel, who managed to finish the race ahead of Brawn GP duo Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. The British driver therefore strengthened his lead in the overall classification to 15 points (ahead of his teammate) with only 3 races to go.

The last point-scoring positions went to McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen and BMW's Robert Kubica. Both Ferraris went on to finish outside the points - Raikkonen in 10th place and Fisichella in 13th place.
