Hamilton: Kubica & Alonso Will Be Main Rivals in 2009

Lewis Hamilton dismissed rumors that he would fear the Ferrari drivers before the season finale at Interlagos. The British driver is only a step from securing his maiden championship title in Formula 1 and seems to have little interest in what his rivals are doing before the Brazilian Grand Prix. As he only needs to finish the race 5th or better to clinch the title, Ferrari's record in Brazil does not frighten Hamilton.

More, the McLaren sophomore ruled out the Ferrari drivers as his future competition for a world title in Formula 1, avoiding to include them on his rival-list for the upcoming season. Curiously enough, one of the drivers Hamilton fears the most in 2009 is former teammate Fernando Alonso.

“I don't fear anyone. Kubica is going to be a serious challenger in the future. He and Alonso will be, perhaps, the two most fierce competitors I have to face,” admitted Hamilton in an interview for British newspaper The Observer.

Coming to Brazil, Hamilton also admitted that his situation this year does not resemble with what happened last season – when he lost the title despite coming to Brazil on a 7-point advantage over Kimi Raikkonen – because he learned how to control his emotions in the meantime.

“I remember last year, going into the final race, I was really on the back foot. So much pressure was on me. I felt the whole country, the whole world... I just felt this huge weight on my shoulders. And I went in and I made several mistakes, and we dropped back. This year, because I've experienced it, I'm much better prepared”.

“What I learned last season has really added to this season. All the problems I had last year, and all the good experiences too. This year, after times like Canada, I think I've learnt to take my time, not rush into things, not take too many risks, just do what is needed. Giving 100 per cent and not 110 per cent,” added Hamilton.

Not taking any risks is exactly what the young Brit needs to do to secure his first F1 title. Hamilton will be using the same engine as in China, while also running with a 3-race old gearbox.
