Hamilton Apologizes for Monza Crash

Coming to Monza with the sole aim of getting his team back in the winning streak in the championship, Lewis Hamilton failed to even secure a podium for the Woking based outfit. And it wasn't as if his car lacked the performance on Sunday, as only Brawn's one stop strategy and his late crash in the race prevented the Brit from scoring his second win of the season.

However, despite his not being able to secure the win ahead of the two Brawn drivers, Hamilton would have at least walk out of the Monza track with a podium finish, as he was racing in a strong 3rd place with a few laps to go. Nevertheless, when pushing hard to close in on Button for the runner-up spot, Ham lost control of his car and crashed it into the wall, recording his second DNF of the season.

Soon after the race, the reigning world champion apologized to his team for his childish mistake and admitted he was forced to push to the limit because of his car's lack of pace all Sunday afternoon.

We didn't have the pace so I was pushing every lap like it was qualifying. The car was still good today, just not good enough. I can only apologise to my team and all my fans,” said Hamilton to the BBC after the race.

McLaren's team principal Martin Whitmarsh also took some part of the blame for Hamilton's failure, as he admitted he should have advised the British driver to secure 3rd place and not go for second in the late stages of the race.

You can criticize us or him but we are a racing team and he is a great racing driver. He was pushing to the end – that's how he is,” added Whitmarsh.
