Hamilton Admits Not Taking Any More Risks

Lewis Hamilton admitted that his aim for the upcoming weekend will be scoring points rather that taking unnecessary risks and go for the race win. Following his point-less performance in Japan, the British driver and championship leader said that finishing a race is the most important thing he can do to get a clean shot at the world title.

“We won't be taking risks, but we will be attacking as much as we can to win the race. If I'm in a position where we are looking to gain good points, and it's an unnecessary risk to make a maneuver, then I won't be doing that”.

“But I'm looking at the fact I have two races and it's important we attack those two races, finish those two races. I'm not going into this race saying 'it has to be done now'. I just want to redeem myself from last week,” said Hamilton.

The McLaren driver assured his fans that he will be more calm when approaching the Chinese and Brazilian races as compared to the situation he was in last year. In 2007, Hamilton came to China holding a 17-point advantage over Kimi Raikkonen but had to call it a day after making a run-off visit before the pit-lane entrance.

There were plenty of voices within the paddock these days condemning Lewis' attitude during the Japanese Grand Prix, most of it concentrating on his rather 'kamikaze' style. Nevertheless, the drivers cleared their colleague of all charges hours before the Friday practice sessions, during the drivers' briefing.

“I've not read the stuff, but I know people have made comments. That's fine with me. They have the right to their own opinion. It's a shame they all think that way, but my driving is why I'm here and why I'm leading the championship, so I'm not disappointed with the way I drive. I do my talking on the track. If other people want to expend their energy thinking about it (the way I drive), that's for them”, concluded Hamilton.

The Brit topped both practice sessions on Friday and looks set to clinching his first win in China.
