Hamann Brought Its Winged 517 M4 to the Essen Motor Show 2014

There was an impressive number of M4 models on the showroom floor of this year’s Essen Motor Show. Apart from the 550 HP Manhart MH4 and the AC Schnitzer alternative with 510 HP there was also the Hamann offering on the table.

Unlike its rivals, we already knew how the Hamann model would look like. That’s because the tuner unveiled the specs and parts for it a couple of weeks before, but we didn’t get a chance to see it live so far and we have to admit that that special bonnet looks.... brilliant.

The tech details

Under the bonnet, the 3-liter twin turbo engine was taken up to 517 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) thanks to a new ECU map and a new exhaust that is bigger in diameter. At the same time, the suspension was changed up front and in the back, lowering the car’s profile by 35 mm.

The brakes also had to be reinforced to cope with the extra grunt but no Hamann badge was to be found there. Instead, the Carbon Ceramic brakes from BMW were the weapon of choice. We’re sure they’ll do just fine.

A new bonnet and a decent wing complete the package

Up front you can’t help but notice the changes the guys did to the aerodynamic characteristics of the car. The bumper received a new carbon fiber splitter, the kidney grilles were replaced with gloss black ones and the bonnet was changed too with a brand new one.

Round the rear, a new wing was added to the boot lid cover, dressed in the same Austin Yellow as the rest of the car and with carbon fiber canards. There’s also a new diffuser and two sets of Anniversary Evo wheels. All of these parts are available for purchase.
