H-D Factory Customization Program Announced

A new year has just started and American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson already begins to pull rabbits out of the marketing hat, this time targeting customers that like to stand out from the crowd. Specifically, Harley-Davidson announced that it is launching a new factory customization program, dubbed H-D1.

The H-D1 program is set to become available starting February 4, but the company has already released a teaser video that shows people walking around in cages before cutting to an engine roar and the tagline “A revolution in personal freedom is coming.”

Customers will be able to design their motorcycles online or at a dealership with upgrades and custom paint from Harley-Davidson’s Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories catalog. This means that through the Bike Builder tool, riders can select their bike, and install and remove accessories.

However, if the parts catalog’s 8,000-plus items proves too overwhelming for some people, they can also consult with Harley-Davidson dealers to plan their H-D1 custom. This is why the company has made H-D1 Consultation available.

The custom designed bike, which can nearly be a one-of-a-kind machine, will be assembled at the factory to be delivered to the customer’s local dealer.

Through this move, the company aims at getting customers to think of Harley-Davidson for their customization needs, rather than going down the aftermarket route.

Full details of the H-D1 factory customization program have not been released yet, but all we need to know is that "Trained H-D1 Fit Shop experts will adjust your Harley-Davidson motorcycle for maximum comfort, style and confidence," as Harley says.
