Guy Martin to Avoid Racing in the TT and NW 200 in 2016, Plans 2700-Mile Bicycle Race

Guy Martin reveals that he is looking forward to missing the Isle of Man TT and North West 200 races next year. These are two of the most important races in the road racing calendar, but it looks like Guy is not that eager to return in the saddle, at least not the next year.

The news arrives via his latest autobiographical book, When You Dead, You Dead. Martin says that he hopes that TAS Racing, his team, will be understanding and agree to not having him on the bike in these two events. He wants to take part in all the other races that normally were on his schedule, so we'll not be seeing the last of him.

Even so, it's been more than once that Guy Martin mentioned retirement from road racing as one of the things that are to be considered in the not-that-distant future. He often said that he loved his job as a truck mechanic and was perfectly fine with the perspective of doing only that for a living, even staying out of the TV world.

The Tour Divide is a 2,745-mile-long bicycle race from Canada to New Mexico

Martin never hesitated to say how boring he thought the NW 200 race was, describing it as "riding round chicanes" or non-technical flat-out straights everybody, including his granny, could ride.

Instead of the TT and the MNW 200, Martin has even "crazier" plans which include joining the Tour Divide, a bicycle race in North America. In case you wonder how can a bicycle race be crazy, we'll add that the course spans across 2,745 miles, which equal 4,416 kilometers. The race passes through the British Columbia and Alberta provinces in Canada, then crossing the border into the US and heading through Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.

Martin is not a newcomer when it comes to such endurance adventures, as he also traveled to India and shot the Our Guy in India documentary for Channel 4. Guy Martin was also supposed to attempt breaking the world land speed record with Triumph at the Bonneville salt flats, but the event was canceled.
