The Dundrod 150 Superbike race was an ill-fated one for charismatic rider Guy Martin. He exited a high-speed turn while he was leading the race and his bike wobbled violently.
Because of the high speed, Martin lost control of his bike and high-sided violently, with the bike closely missing him as he was tumbling on the road. His Tyco BMW smashed into a foam barrier and projected into the air, crashing hard to the ground and stopping close to the left side of the road.
Martin tumbled several times as he left the road into a nearby field and remained lying on his back. While we first thought he had lost consciousness, we could see that he was not motionless, even if he was unable to get up. And it's good he didn't move...
Martin's family was at the hospital with him and his sister Kate tweeted that he was in good spirits, even though he was to undergo a back surgery to stabilize his vertebrae. At the time of writing, Guy Martin was in surgery. According to his sister, the surgery should take around three hours.

Martin suffered breaks to his ribs, sternum and vertebrae
Even though his team initially tweeted that Guy was only battered up, he was admitted into the Royal Victoria Hospital with suspicions of broken ribs. The medical investigations revealed so much more than first thought, as doctors discovered he had suffered breaks to his ribs, sternum and vertebrae.Martin's family was at the hospital with him and his sister Kate tweeted that he was in good spirits, even though he was to undergo a back surgery to stabilize his vertebrae.
