We have kind of been waiting for a response to the growing rumors that saw English rider of Isle of Man TT fame Guy Martin as part of the trio which could carry on with BBC's Top Gear show. A reaction finally came, in the feeble form of a laconic Facebook post from Martin, but instead of shedding light on the matter, it has only made things even fuzzier.
"It's funny what you can find out in the papers sometimes..." Guy Martin posted on his Facebook page, with a link to an article published by The Independent. The article claims that Guy Martin is the third member of a trio "in advanced talks" with the BBC regarding the Top Gear show. The other two presenters the Independent mentions are Jodie Kidd and Philip Glenister.

Mixed opinions on Martin at Top Gear

His post quickly gathered more than 17,000 likes and numerous comments, but the feelings are mixed. Some fellows hope that he will become a part of the new Top Gear team, but most of those who express their opinion on this matter strongly advise Martin to decline the offer.

Opinion range from "don't to it, the TT needs you" and "career suicide" to "do a motoring show Guy, but not that one!" and end up with recommendations for putting up his own bike show comprising " trying new bikes, how to go about track days, on a road bike, a track only bike built from scratch on a budget, advanced riding advice and so on".

Now, it's anyone's guess whether Guy Martin will be part of the new Top Gear team or not. Truth is that he did say he was planning to quit both road racing and TV and settle to being a mechanic. Has he changed his mind? Frankly, we tend to believe that him not denying firmly might indicate the fact that the Independent could be right. Time will tell, soon, anyway.
