Guy Makes Ford F-150 Raptor Out of Wood and It Has Functional Parts

Woodworking - it's the productive craft that involves cutting, shaping, and joining wood to create objects that are useful, but also decorative. Anybody can do it, and being locked indoors, many of you probably binged videos on how to build awesome desks or patio furniture.

I know I did; the new miter saw just arrived in the mail, but I can't remember what I wanted it for. In any case, woodworking is mostly about building furniture. But sometimes, you even get guys with the skills and patience to sculpt.

It's not as simple as screwing together a bunch of planks, as this video proves. A few weeks ago, we shared a couple of Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs built by the same craftsman in the Philippines. But this F-150 Raptor seems more American and appropriate, considering most handymen have a truck.

The artist begins his work by roughing out big chunks of wood on the band saw. Template photos of the real-life F-150 are used to get accurate sizes. The next stage involves crafting the individual pieces that make up the final vehicle.

There are a surprising number of moving parts that have to be sculpted separately, so they can be hinged. These include the hood, roof, and tailgate. The Raptor's claim to fame is its off-road suspension. And wouldn't you know it, the wooden version actually gets suspension arms and springs. He didn't even cheat on the wheels, which have hand-sculpted tire treads. We'd have just found a way to use a cheap Chinese 3D printer or a laser woodcutter.

It even has detailed representations of the Raptor grille and the engine. This video is only 10 minutes long, but this YouTube woodworker probably has decades of experience and countless hours put into this project alone.
