Guy Driving Seat Leon ST Cupra 280 Plays Cat and Mouse with a Giulia QV Prototype

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde is supposed to be an M3/M4 and C63 AMG killer if we’re to listen to Sergio Marchionne’s claims. Hell, if we’re just taking a look at the pedigree the car has and its specs, it’s hard not to wonder what will happen once it meets its direct rivals on the track.

However, as you might’ve noticed there have been drastic improvements launched on front-wheel drive cars and we had the chance to test two of them just recently. I’m talking about the Megane RS 275 Trophy and the Seat Leon ST Cupra 280, both cars posting incredible results on the benchmark track of the world, the Nurburgring.

Therefore, what we have below is really a battle of rear-wheel drive high-powered traditional beasts going up against the new front-wheel drive challengers.

The guys from Bridge to Gantry had the chance to stumble upon a prototype for the new Alfa Romeo Giulia QV on the Nurburgring while going for a drive. Of course, they couldn’t miss the chance to test the Italian and see if it will indeed give the M3 a run for its money.

The first part of the video is rather disappointing to be honest. The Seat is all over the Alfa and eventually, the driver of the Italian sports car decides to let the madman behind him through, afraid that something might go wrong.

Of course, after nearly half of the Nordschleife was covered, the BTG crew decided to try and force the Giulia to get ahead of them and they basically pull over to let it through. This is when all hell breaks loose.

The Ferrari-worked twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet that is supposed to be good for 510 HP is put to work and starts leaving the Spaniard behind. With 230 HP in between them, the straights were the QV’s best ally but it was interesting to see the Leon catch up in the twisty parts.

All in all, the driver of the Seat seems to know the track better than the test pilot inside the Alfa for some reason and that may also be one of the explanations why it was able to keep up. Either way, it’s a really interesting video to watch, especially given the input the driver offers, the man apparently knowing what he’s talking about.
