Among many exotic car debuts on the Genenva floor, there’s one that raises particular interest for us. We’re talking about the Red coupe in the adjacent images, which is a concept car coming from... Gumpert. As you may remember, the German sports car producer Gumpert went bankrupt in August last year, despite the fact that its Apollo has manage to establish a name on the supercar market.
Well, now it appears that Gumpert is back in business and while they’ve also bought an Apollos S to Geneva, it’s the new offering that matters the most.
Called Gumpert Explosion, this seems to leave the super-dreams behind and use a more reasonable sports car approach instead. This seems like a normal plan for a company that now wants to stay in business, as the sports car segment offers considerably heftier volume.
By the way, Gumpert has teamed up with a British company called Formvision. We couldn’t find too many info on them, aside from the fact that they activate in the consultancy business.
Returning to Gumpert’s Explosion, we find a concept that promises to morph into two series versions. The most powerful, the Explosion S, should use a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine delivering 510 HP and a peak torque of 625 Nm (461 lb-ft).
As for the standard Explosion, this features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The unit relies on turbocharging to deliver a respectable 420 HP and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque.
Gumpert still hasn’t fully announced its plans, but its sheer presence is good news.
