There's something about that Gulf Oil livery that makes people want it on their cars. It could be the fact that Ford and Porsche had a lot of success back in the 1960s and 1970s wearing the famed paint scheme or it's just about the two colors looking good on almost any vehicle.
Whatever the case, we just stumbled upon another Gulf project just a few hours after showing you two new cars in blue & orange clothes. This time it's no sportscar, but one of Ford's most revered full-size musclecars - the Fairlane.
The vehicle in question is a 1967 model, which makes it part of the fifth-generation Fairlane, and it's being prepared by Morgan's & Phillip's Speed Apparel (M&P) for the 2013 SEMA scheduled in November. Even though the Gulf Oil Fairlane exists only as a rendering at the time of writing, we can notice that it will sport the company's orange color on the whole front fascia and bumper that usually come as a chrome piece. And based on the hood markings, the full-size will be powered by a 429 cubic inch V8, which was introduced on the Fairlane starting 1970.
We don't know if M&P Speed Apparel intended it to be this way, but we could see a link between the Fairlane and the Gulf-liveried Ford GT40 that won the Le Mans back in the late 1960s. The race car started its career with a Fairlane engine under the hood. It's good enough for us and we're more than anxious to find out more about this project!
