Guidepoint GPS System Gets Stolen Bikes Back

Maybe we cannot fully protect our motorcycles against thieves, but Guidepoint seems to at least have found a solution to get them back in case you find yourself stranded wondering what happened to your ride. The renown telematics supplier announced it has developed a new version of the GPS-enabled theft protection system for motorcycles and powersports vehicles.

"Theft of motorcycles and powersports equipment is an epidemic,"
Guidepoint CEO Rand Mueller was quoted as saying in statement for the press. "We've designed the new GPS Xtreme to protect against thieves by making it the most advanced system on the market in terms of reliability, durability and the latest in GPS technology. By combining it with our 24/7/365 response centers, we can respond to thefts and tampering quickly and with pinpoint accuracy."

In fact, the new GPS system, dubbed Xtreme is being currently displayed at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where visitors can go and see if it really is that water-resistent and dustproof as the manufacturer says it is. Apparently, it can even be submerged for up to 30 minutes and not even the tinies particles of dust cannot find their way through the unit’s casing.

And since one of the most common problems these devices have is that they run out of battery, it appears that Guidepoint’s GPS Xtreme has an advanced power management technology, which allows it to draw just 50 microamps of power from the battery, yet without sacrificing any second of protection. As the unit senses motion, it will immediately go into full-power mode and send an alert to Guidepoint's 24/7/365 response center.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not yet provided us with pricing information, but is expected to do so closer to the market launch.
