Yesterday we showed you the first sketches of the MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo and today we have the pleasure of showing it to you in all of its glory. MINI and the Gran Turismo people managed to get none other than famous rallyist and stunt driver Guerlain Chicherit to introduce it. We bow to that.
The car is supposed to contain the essence of the ‘Fighting Mini’ that goes against every odd in the book. It is the definition of going against the stream and getting others to follow it too.
After all, the Clubman is by far the one car in the line-up that we never would’ve imagined on a track. Even the bigger Countryman has a John Cooper Works package available, one that completely transforms it. As for the car with the barn-style doors at the back... We’re more reserved towards it.
Leaving the design aside, the ‘virtual specs’ are something we’d like to see in a production car as well, be that a Clubman or anything else. The engine is supposedly good for 395 HP and the car has a sequential 6-speed gearbox connected to the ALL4 all-wheel drive system that allows it to get to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds.
Other interesting facts imagined for this Vision Concept include the adjustable dampers along with the top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph). It all sounds great but it’s the looks that get us every time.
"The MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo combines all the hallmark MINI design features presented in the sportiest and most exciting style. A MINI like this has never been seen before," says Christopher Weil, Head of MINI Exterior Design.
The two elements that strike you almost as soon as you lay your eyes on the car are the elliptical headlamps that feature a black ‘X’ motif, one that reminds of the bygone days when this design was enforced to avoid the glass from being shattered due to a sudden encounter with a stone from the gravel races would take place on.
Inside the Gran Turismo world you’ll get to choose out of five paint finishes, depending on your mood. Cyber Silver will be the base color in all combinations but the end result will vary depending on the choice of stripes that go along the body of the car, on the bonnet and the roof.
The standard model will come with the roof dressed in Reflector Blue with accentuation stripes in Radiant Orange and Curry. In the other variants, the roof is available in Mirage Black or Space Green. Depending on the roof colour, the bonnet stripes and pin stripes then provide fascinating modern contrasts in Radiant Yellow, Radiant Green or Radiant Orange.
