Thousands of Golf GTI owners, together with fans of other VW Group cars, ranging from the Audi RS4 to the Volkswagen T5 Van, are preparing to go to Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, UK, for this year’s edition of the GTI International.
The even, which is set to take place over the weekend of 23 top 25 June and is organized by Volkswagen Driver magazine and sponsored by Revo Technik, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The festival attracts enthusiasts from Europe and even the US, Australia and South Africa.
The main attraction will be the quarter mile sprint, where some of the fastest Vee-Dubs record 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) times of 2.5 seconds and quarter mile runs of 10 seconds, with the 2011 edition of the even seeing 500 car entering and 1,800 runs talking place.
There will also be a handling course, promoted by Bilstein and Eibach with support from Hankook tyres,, as well as a “Show ‘n’ Shine” event, sponsored by Meguiar’s. In addition to that, you’ll get to see club displays and line-ups, trade stands, autojumble, cars for sale, BMX and MotoX displays, a driving simulator, children’s entertainment and on-site camping as well as a DJ, bar and fireworks display on Saturday night.
VW UK will display the new GTI Cabriolet, as well as its collection of Mk I to VI Golfs, while Germany-based Volkswagen Classic Parts is set to bring a number of historic vehicles to the event.
