Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was reportedly approached by a group of wealthy investors with a proposition to purchase the Dodge Viper’s assembly line, complete with tooling.
The reported deal has appeared in the year that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced that 2017 is the final model year for the Dodge Viper, and that the car will not get a replacement in the foreseeable future.

The said group of investors was interested in building and selling the Viper as is, but the deal has not gone further that a few private discussions.

News about this potential deal involving the Dodge Viper was first published by The Truth About Cars, which found out about the situation from James Glickenhaus.

According to Mr. Glickenhaus, currently a financial advisor, he was contacted by the said group of unnamed investors regarding advice on the potential deal with FCA. Glickenhaus has explained that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was open to the discussion with the representatives of the group of investors, but had requested time to consider the proposal.

While FCA was considering the possibility, the investors had decided not to acquire the production line of the Dodge Viper, says the former movie director. Glickenhaus also claims that he had advised the investors against the deal, but he does not know if they followed his advice just because or if the deal went cold for other reasons.

When contacted by TTAC, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles representatives have explained that the company values the confidentiality of its B2B opportunities and discussions, and refused to comment on the matter.

However, the FCA spokesperson has stated that the Viper has not been offered to other automakers at the moment, according to the heads of the Dodge brand.

It is worth noting that sales of the V10-powered supercar are waning, and that the calculated break-even point is at approximately 2,000 units a year, about four times more than what Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had managed to sell since launching the ongoing model in the Viper range.
