The 24-year old racer returned to the cockpit of a 2009-spec Toyota after his role with the Italian tire supplier had been taken by Pedro de la Rosa in recent months. And, as compared to how the Pirelli tires had behaved during his first running, the Swiss-bord racer saw an obvious improvement last week.
“(In Bahrain) I immediately felt an improvement over the tires that I had used at Monza,” said Romain Grosjean, who first tested for Pirelli back in September, according to stopandgo.tv.
“The programme was quite diverse, including sequences of short and long runs, to understand the behavior of the compounds,” he further revealed the structure of the Pirelli test last week, which concluded on Sunday.
The testing session was not all milk and honey however, as it experienced several delays due to sandstorms in the reagion. It was actually the main reason why it ended so late, on Sunday, reason for which Grosjean had to put his commitments in the Andros ice-racing series on hold.
Starting in January, the former Renault F1 driver will take up complete responsibility of Pirelli's development programme, as De la Rosa will no longer test the Toyota TF109 for the Italian manufacturer. Throughout the month of January, Pirelli will try to make the latest adjustments to their tires, before the official kick-off of the testing season, on February 1st, in Valencia.
