Green Sales in the Netherlands Triple in 2012

Last year, some 1,658 EVs were sold in the Netherlands - a good performance, for such a small country. However, in the same time frame, this year, they have managed to sell three times as many, reaching a total sales number of 5,650 units sold until September.

The top seller is, as was expected, the new Opel Ampera, which accounted for 1,935 units, followed by the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid, which sold 600 units, the Nissan leaf with 448, the Smart ForTwo ED with 322 and the all-electric Renault Kangoo ZE managing to sell 231.

The Netherlands, with a total number of 4,518 public and private charging stations (44 of which are fast chargers) is rapidly becoming a European leader in the adoption of EVs, and green cars in general. The numbers have grown substantially since last year, when the country had 1,841 charging points, of which just 15 were fast chargers.

With such sustainable growth, the country plans on a 15,000 to 20,000 figure for 2015, 200,000 in 2020 and one million in 2025.
