Green Hell Riffs: 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 Owner Hits The Nurburgring

We have to admit that we've been waiting for an occasion such as the one delivered by the piece of footage below for quite a while now - the time has come for the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 to hit the Nurburgring in civilian mode.

That's right, we no longer have to turn to Porsche-owned cars for track day giggles. With the first customers having already taken delivery of their cars, we are now looking at a clip that shows such an owner using his Gen 2 GT3 as Zuffenhausen intended.

We're talking about a car that can lap the Nordschleife in 7:12.7, which means it's considerably quicker than the still-unreplaced 991 GT3 RS, which is a 7:20 car. Nevertheless, while the lap seen here shows respectable pace, you shouldn't expect 100 percent of the performance to be extracted, at least not so early and with traffic, albeit light, getting in the way.

Oh, and let's not forget about the soundtrack. The 3.8-liter motor of the 991.1 GT3 wasn't without its tech issues (here's the latest recall on the matter), so the German engineers went back to the drawing board for the 991.2. And, among the changes delivered by the 4.0-liter mill of the newcomer, we find a decibel fest that's memorable. The 9,000 rpm redline is on the house.

Keep in mind that the manual incarnation of the 2018 GT3 won't enter production until next month, so, for now, we can't talk about stick shift Ring pleasures.

Interestingly, the 991.2 GT3 isn't a closed chapter. That's because Porsche has yet to introduce the rumored Touring Package of the Neunelfer.

The said pack will enhance the daily driver aura of the new GT3, with the latest unofficial talk on the matter letting us know that the Touring Pack will bring back the rear seats, while deleting the wing. Hopefully, we'll get a ducktail spoiler, at least as an option.
