This is just the tip of the iceberg. Ian Robertson, a member of the BMW Group's Board of Management Sales and Marketing, said he expects the numbers to grow further throughout 2013.

“We made a successful start to the new year, selling more BMW Group vehicles than ever before in the month of January. We remain true to our strategy of balanced sales across the globe by achieving growth on all continents last month. Looking ahead, we expect the headwinds in Europe to remain, however we are confident of healthy sales growth in other regions, especially Asia and the Americas. With new models arriving this year to enhance our already successful portfolio, we are aiming for further growth in BMW Group worldwide sales in 2013 and are targeting a new all-time high for the third consecutive year,” said Robertson.

For BMW the past month proved to be the best selling January in its history. Sales increased by 11,5% all the way up to 107,276 (compared to last years' 96,184) breaking for the first time, the 100,000 units barrier.

The best sellers were: the F30 3 Series (with 29,053 units sold, a 27.9% increase) and the E84 X1 with a record 57.8% increase (11,753 units sold). Other cars also recorded substantial increases like, the F25 X3 (which was sold in 10,230 units, a 9.4% increase), the F20 1 Series (that was sold in 14,222 units, a 8.8% increase), the F10 5 Series (sales climbed 6.4% to 23,049 units) and the F12 6 Series (with a sales increase of 22.4% to 1,354 units).

As for MINI, the total sales added up to 15,864 vehicles, also a new record for January. The best selling MINI was the Countryman with 6,621 delivered vehicles (11.3% growth). An expected, but still surprising rise in sales was recorded in China. Here, the MINI sales grew 20.3% to 1,800 vehicles.

Taking a global look, the BMW Group gained ground on all continents. Of course, Asia recorded the highest rise with 18.4%. In the American continent the rise was not so spectacular only a 2.5% increase being recorded. As for Europe, sales were better, adding up to a 8.0% increase, translating into 3,763 more vehicles sold.
