Graphic: Woman Saved by Her Helmet as a Concrete Truck Runs Over Her Head

As PSAs on the importance of wearing a helmet go, this is by far the most effective. As the saying goes, seeing is believing – and you won’t believe the kind of luck one young woman from China had when a concrete truck ran over her head and she survived.

It all happened in Jinhua city, during morning traffic. The woman, identified only as Ms Zhu, was riding her scooter when she passed a parked car. The door on the driver’s side opened suddenly, taking her by surprise and not giving her enough time to react.

She hit the door directly and the impact was so strong that it threw her off her moped and into the path of an incoming concrete truck. As you can see in the video at the bottom of the page, released by the Jinhua Police to serve as a warning to all moped-riders to wear helmets, the truck ran over the woman’s head.

The truck driver later told the police that he had seen her being thrown off her scooter in the side mirror, so he had time to brake. When he got out of the truck, she was on the ground, injured but conscious. Her helmet had shattered to pieces.

The driver of the car who caused the crash was also the one to call 911. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where, miraculously, doctors told her she had sustained a contusion and lacerations on the scalp, but no brain injury.

“Without the helmet, I think I would have been dead,” Ms Zhu told the local media. Without the helmet, she would have definitely been in no position to walk away from such a horrendous accident with some bruises and cuts, that’s for sure.
