Sadly, most of the crew here at autoevolution have reached an age when the promises of retirement sound better and better by the day. Some have begun planning a long, quiet retirement in the Alps, others plan to end up smashing a supercar in a wall and leave this world in style, while a few don't even dream of living for another 10 years.
All of us however wish we had the exuberance and courage Sue O'Grady, a 62 year-old granny from Sprotbrough, Doncaster seems to have. The former hairdresser decided enough is enough, out of the blue, and let the family know that she is selling all of her possessions, including the 200,000 GBP house ($308,300, EUR240,000).
The reason behind her decision is simple. The granny plans to mount her Harley and disappear into the horizon for what she hopes will be a 10-year long trip around the world.
"I love my home, I've lived there a long time and it's everything I ever wanted, but I probably love my Harley a lot more on balance, so the house has got to go,” O'Grady told yorkshirepost.co.uk.
"I can travel a long way and see a lot of the world with the proceeds from the sale, and if I can stretch the money out and make it last for eight or 10 years then so much the better."
And if you're worried about the magnitude of the endeavor and the dangers which lurk around every street bend, don't. The granny is used to riding. After all, she has already clocked 100,000 miles on her Harley, as she traveled around Britain and Western Europe accompanied by members of the Harley Davidson Owners Group.
"They think I'm absolutely crazy," the granny says of her family's reaction. "But you only live once, and I'm going to make the best of it while I've got the chance."
Godspeed, Sue!
